Last Updated 3 years ago

First, thank you for using the new ticketing system. Below are a few methods of authenticating with the new CIPA web filter. Also see the bottom for some troubleshooting steps and other information.

Chrome CIPA authenticator (Preferred Method)

  • If you logon to chrome with your school email, the chrome extension should auto install and place an icon in the upper right of your browser. If it doesn't install automatically you can get it here.image
  • Click on the extension and then click settings.image
  • Fill in your network username and password. Your network username is just your email without the @platteville.k12.wi.us. If you don't remember your network username and password you can go here to reset via email, or respond back to this ticket and we will contact you to reset it. image
  • Click continue your extension icon should now have an OK by it and stay that way.image
  • Sometimes if your computer gets a different IP address or if your session expires, you may need to manually re-authenticate. Your computer may get a new IP address if you switch buildings.
  • To re-authenticate just click on the icon and click Reauth, or if that doesn't show up click Sign-out then Reauth. imageimage

Authenticating with the portal

  • You can authenticate with the portal directly by going to the CIPA Portal and login with your network username and password. Your network username is just your email without the @platteville.k12.wi.us. If you don't remember your network username and password you can go here to reset via email, or respond back to this ticket and we will contact you to reset it. Edit
  • After you login you may get a screen with a logout button, this means your are now authenticated. image

With a blocked page notification.

  • If browsing the web you may get to a blocked page that allows you to authenticate to the portal. If you click the authenticate to portal it will take you to the same page as in the previous method. You just have to login with your network username and password. Your network username is just your email without the @platteville.k12.wi.us. If you don't remember your network username and password you can go here to reset via email, or respond back to this ticket and we will contact you to reset it. image

Troubleshooting

  • If you are a staff member you can join PPS-Wireless. For staff members PPS-Wireless automatically gets less restrictive policy with the CIPA Filter.
  • If you see a error like this then more and likely your are getting blocked by the filter, but since the connection is secured, like https, then the filter can't inject the block page. Please authenticate with the portal directly by going to the CIPA Portal and login with your network username and password. Your network username is just your email without the @platteville.k12.wi.us. If you don't remember your network username and password you can go here to reset via email, or respond back to this ticket and we will contact you to reset it. image

  • If you get an SSL or TLS error while going to the CIPA Portal please install the ca.crt from here. If you have a Mac you can download and install this package. If you need assistance installing the CA cert please respond back to this ticket. Most of the time the installation is just a double click after download and trusting the Certificate Authority (CA) for platteville.k12.wi.us.image
